Regular Freedom@Work readers know that we've been following the SEIU's aggressive "growth at any cost" policies for quite some time.
This entry from the Philadelphia Inquirer alludes to the reality of what Big Labor seems to be offering these days -- help us or go bust. Although most of the article focuses on a failed attempt to unionize security guards, the author also describes the union's hostile relationship with Aramark, a food services vendor:
"In 2005, Aramark entered into a neutrality agreement with SEIU and
UniteHere, another union, Aramark spokeswoman Kristine Grow said.Aramark, which provides food service at colleges, ballparks, companies
and schools, would remain neutral in union-organizing drives, if their
clients agreed.
In 2006, Aramark decided to terminate the neutrality agreement, which
expired last summer. Since then, SEIU has applied hard pressure to the company."
Aramark's experience highlights the dark underbelly of the SEIU's "corporate campaign" strategy. Having withdrawn from this so-called neutrality agreement designed to force unwilling workers into union ranks, Aramark found itself again targeted by a series of PR broadsides, including an SEIU-sponsored website where users anonymously post unverified attacks on Aramark's performance and services.
Folks, this is what union organizing has become: when workers aren't interested, just bloody the company until it essentially agrees to do the organizing for you. Par for the course when it comes to the SEIU.

Are you guys for real? This guy is going to bitch because he has a pension plan. Do you know how many of us would love a pension plan “forced “upon us? Big Corporations spend millions of dollars a year to scare workers from participating in unions. If you compare union member wages, health benefits, and retirement plans to workers who live in Right to Work states you would realize that union membership is beneficial to workers.
BTW … WORKERS ARE THE UNION! Stop third partying labor unions. Union members vote on everything before any decisions are made. Nothing is forced on anyone. Unions are not perfect … they have problems just like any other organization. It’s up to the union members to participate and be active in the union. People like you are always quick to point out the bad things that happen but never talk about the positive things that labor unions do.
RIGHT to Work is the biggest oxymoron! All the Southern Red states need to wake up and understand that their boss is not concerned about their wages, health benefits, or showing you respect on the job. Without the workers these big corporations are nothing. Keep bowing down to the boss and watch him get richer while you slowly get poorer and poorer. Union Made means made in America by Americans! If people don’t wake and start realizing the truth their job will be soon outsourced and their right to a job will be in Mexico or China! I know you won't let the public view this because deep down you know I'm right. How do you get up in the morning and face yourself in the mirror. Enjoy the 40 hour work week and everything else that union organizers fought for and sometimes died for. Stop spreading propaganda and do some research you finger pointing asshole!
