Dear Sir:

I am employed by _____________________. I am not a member of the union. If you records reflect that I am a union member, I resign that membership effective immediately.

Michigan’s Right to Work law expired on February 12, 2024. Notwithstanding this expiration, the union cannot lawfully demand that I pay dues or fees to keep my job unless and until the union enters into an agency fee agreement with my employer. If the union demands that I pay dues or fees, please provide me with a copy of the agency fee agreement that requires that I pay fees to the union as a condition of my employment.

Under federal law, I cannot be required to join the union as a member or to pay full union dues as a condition of my employment. The most that can be required under an agency fee agreement is that I pay certain reduced fees to the union as a nonmember. To the extent the union is permitted to collect dues or fees from me as a condition of employment, I hereby invoke my rights under the Supreme Court’s decision in Communications Workers v. Beck, 487 U.S. 735 (1988). I object to paying for the union’s political and non-representational activities and object to paying anything except my pro rata share of the union’s costs of collective bargaining, contract administration, and grievance adjustment. This objection is permanent and continuing in nature, unless and until I inform you otherwise. I also request that the union immediately send me audited financial disclosures that justify any agency fee the union seeks to exact from me.

Sincerely yours,
