{"id":656,"date":"2010-03-11T13:33:07","date_gmt":"2010-03-11T13:33:07","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2020-01-22T17:40:07","modified_gmt":"2020-01-22T22:40:07","slug":"young-workers-flee-forced-unionism-states-seeking-jobs-freedom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nrtw.org\/es\/blog\/young-workers-flee-forced-unionism-states-seeking-jobs-freedom\/","title":{"rendered":"Young Workers Flee Forced Unionism States Seeking Jobs, Freedom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p>\nThe pro-worker freedom think tank National Institute for Labor Relations Research (<a href=\"http:\/\/nilrr.org\/\">NILRR<\/a>) <a href=\"http:\/\/nilrr.org\/node\/103\">just published<\/a> a study noting that forced unionism hurts young workers the most and because of that, they are leaving forced unionism states for Right to Work states in droves:\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\n\tThough they are located variously in the New England, Middle Atlantic, South Atlantic, and East North Central regions of the U.S., <u>all 13 states enduring the worst losses [of young workers] all have one important public policy in common:  Not one has a Right to Work law<\/u> that prohibits making forced union dues or fees a condition of employment.  In contrast, all six of the states outside the West with young-adult population gains of more than 10.0% are Right to Work states.\n\t<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nThe <a href=\"http:\/\/nilrr.org\/node\/103\">study<\/a> also notes that states with Right to Work protections for its workers <a href=\"\/en\/blog\/union-boss-monopoly-bargaining-hinders-job-growth-09282409\">are weathering<\/a> these tough economic conditions significantly better than their forced unionism counterparts and previous studies <a href=\"\/en\/blog\/nilrr-union-monopoly-linked-lower-purchasing-power-08282009\">have shown<\/a> that workers who flee forced unionism benefit financially more than their counterparts who moved from a pro-worker freedom state into a forced unionism state.\u00a0 NILRR&#8217;s most recent study suggests that the further expansion of Big Labor&#8217;s <a href=\"\/en\/d\/big_labor_special_privileges.htm\">government-granted forced dues privileges<\/a> such as those in the <a href=\"\/en\/blog\/card-check-does-eliminate-secret-ballot-03182009\">Card Check Forced Unionism Bill<\/a> would not only hurt all of America&#8217;s workers but also hit young workers the hardest.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nOf course, economic benefits alone do not account for the trend of young workers&#8217; moving patterns.
