{"id":2710,"date":"2001-06-27T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2001-06-27T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2016-08-09T18:29:18","modified_gmt":"2016-08-09T18:29:18","slug":"health-center-employees-hit-teamsters-union-with-federal-charges-0","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nrtw.org\/es\/news\/health-center-employees-hit-teamsters-union-with-federal-charges-0\/","title":{"rendered":"Health Center Employees Hit Teamsters Union with Federal Charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (June 27, 2001)<\/b> &#8212; A dozen hospital employees at Youngstown&#8217;s St. Elizabeth Health Center today filed federal charges against officials of the Teamsters Local 377 union for refusing to accept their resignations and for failing to properly notify them of their right to pay less than full union dues.<\/p>\n<p>The employees filed the unfair labor practice charges with the assistance of National Right to Work Foundation attorneys on behalf of all bargaining unit employees with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).<\/p>\n<p>\u00abTeamsters officers are shaking down these employees simply because they exercised their right not to support the union,\u00bb said <a href=\"mailto:rlw@nrtw.org\">Randy Wanke<\/a>, Director of Legal Information for the National Right to Work Foundation, a charitable organization that provides free legal aid to victims of compulsory unionism abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Officials of the Youngstown-based union refused to accept employees&#8217; written resignations from union membership and told employees that they must pay all \u00abback dues\u00bb before the union would even consider their resignations.  The charges also state that Local Teamsters union officials used payroll deductions to collect alleged \u00abpreexisting debt arrearages\u00bb that the union could not lawfully obligate the workers to pay under its forced unionism clause.<\/p>\n<p>Under the Foundation-won U.S. Supreme Court <a href=\"\/foundation-won.htm#Beck\"><i>Communications Workers v.
