With all the controversy surrounding card check legislation, it's worth talking to workers who've actually experienced the procedure first-hand. With that in mind, the National Right to Work Foundation interviewed several employees who endured intimidation, harassment and coercion at the hands of union organizers during an actual card check drive. After UAW organizers forced their way into the workplace through the coercive card check scheme, the workers forced a secret ballot decertification vote (using a precedent won by National Right to Work Foundation attorneys) and tossed out the unwanted union.

Union Intimidation
I was a dues paying member of the UAW and the IBEW. I know about union intimidation from personal experience.
My first real job was in the upholstery shop at Wayne Bus Company in Indiana, (then a Right to Work state). The UAW union steward in my shop actually threatened me, saying that if I didn’t join the Union, he would get me fired. Of course I joined. The company later closed down after the union refused to compromise on labor costs.
On a later job, working as a machinist at AVCO Corp, a missile parts manufacturing plant in Indiana, the IBEW union steward continually harassed me for working to fast. He said I was "killing" the piecework rate.
My last job was a sales associate at (non-union) Home Depot in California. At that time a union organizing effort was being made, and again pro-union employees were very aggressive. They pushed hard to find out which employees were against unions. The store managers however remained fairly neutral, simply explaining how things would change if a union were put in. The union was overwhelmingly rejected.
It astonishes me that anyone, especially an elected politician whose career depends on the secret ballot, would ever consider removing this crucial element from the democratic process.
Believe me, I know, the secret ballot is very necessary for fair union organizing.
Thugs
We have thugs running the government and now they want thugs in unions to run us. they take your money and force business closings. It is amazing. Next thing you know there will be buses for the old, mentally ill and unemployed taking you to Nirvana. I believe Hitler called his camps Achwitz and Buchenwald.
Union Intimidation
Card checking is a guarenteed way for the union to get what it wants.
How rediculious is it that you would have to vote and sign your name to that ballot?
It was bad enough that at election time I received a letter from Barack telling me how much he supports my union, and then a follow up letter from the union telling me that I had better vote for Obama if I still wanted to work.
Nice threat technique. Needless to say, I voted for whom I wanted, not for who the union tells me I have to vote for.
If card checking makes it through congress, all union members for each union in the country should not vote when something comes up for a vote.
I mean if something is coming up, there is no way my union rep should say, hey Rob, you gotta vote for this, and remember we know which jobs you work!
No to Card Checking
Union Intimidation
Shocking! Union Boss intimidation and corruption?!?!?!? Shhhh! Keep that on the down low.
I dont live too far from
I dont live too far from Richmond, I always wondered why the Wayne Bus Company closed down, now I know. They were like a Wayne County Icon. They had been there for years. Carpenter Buses took the plant over and they eventually closed it too. A sad thing to happen.
Sheet Metal Workers International Association
I was a sheet metal worker for a few years two of which were union. They have a program where you go undercover and work for non-union shops and collect both pay from the non-union shop and the union. During which time you try to dig up some dirt on the company to try to put them out of business. They then threaten to sue the company and or get them closed down if they don't organize. At the time I thought oh sweet I could make real good money doing this and thought the unions were great. After time I realized how wrong they really are. They claim "an honest days work for an honest days pay." Then why should I a high school drop out make over $60/hr total including pension and benefits? Doesn't quite sound fair to me when somebody else worked hard and busted their butt to start that company or to go to school and make those kind of wages. They get you all caught up in this kind of class warfare where its look how filthy rich your boss must be. In most cases they aren't truely that rich and even if they are you have every right to work just as hard as them to become just as rich as them. This is America. You can do anything you put your mind to. I'm proud to say I'm no longer a union worker and I'm going back to school to make a real honest days pay. No longer will I have someone shoving who I have to vote for in political elections either. If you don't agree with libral politics you're doing your self a real disfavor by working for these unions who send millions of dollars of working peoples money to political fund raisers. Thats not what I thought my dues were for.

Welcome to the Obama Nazi party!!
Reply to Obama's Nazi party
I have to say I fully agree. The change the other side voted for and got Obama in office are now getting the changes they must have dreamt about. I was once in the Teamsters and before I joined they took $.50/hr from my pay they say, "for the widows fund". I ended up joining and didn't have anymore trouble but the 50 cents per hour really hacked me off.
Congress has the big head thinking they can do anything to people they choose, I have news, for them, the PUBLIC is watching every move we can watch that Congress makes.
