Union Bosses Fear Free Workers

T. J., the former union boss from Port Huron, said “A right-to-work state kills unions.”

Since a right to work law merely makes support of a labor union voluntary, his statement can only be true if labor unions can survive only through coercion. When workers are free to choose whether or not to support a union based on its performance, poor performing organizations will wither and effective unions that are responsive to its members will grow. It is easy to see why corrupt and feckless union officials fear allowing workers the right to choose.
